Since the proliferation of large language models (LLMs) in 2023, our team—the same people behind daydream, the AI-native SEO agency—has viewed the arrival of an agent capable of handling the strategic pillars of SEO, end-to-end, fully autonomously, as the “holy grail” of applied AI in SEO.
For a long time, this was a distant dream on the near horizon. Today, it’s reality as we announce sunbeam, the autonomous SEO agent.
How sunbeam works
sunbeam is a proactive agent built to handle every aspect of SEO for your business, pre-loaded with thousands of hours of distilled knowledge from the SOPs, playbooks, and tactics we developed serving the world’s fastest-growing companies at daydream including Replit, Clay, and Hims & Hers.
After signing up, sunbeam will spend several hours conducting deep research on your product, company, competitors, and competitive landscape. Then, it’ll get to work doing the most impactful SEO work required to help you win organic search. This includes formulating SEO strategies that are both quantitatively and qualitatively validated, creating entire content calendars for your brand, drafting articles from start to finish, and diagnosing and fixing technical SEO issues from start to finish.
Whatever you’d expect an SEO consultant or agency to do, sunbeam’s agent will do it for you.
Perhaps most importantly, you do not need to tell sunbeam what to work on. sunbeam will independently reflect on your long-term SEO strategy, prioritize the highest leverage actions, and then execute on them. If you’re lacking coverage of a particular topical cluster, sunbeam will write content for it. If a technical SEO issue is preventing your pages from being indexed, sunbeam will write a pull request to fix it.
Autonomous SEO vs. workflow-based SEO
Autonomous SEO differs substantively from workflow-based SEO, which is currently the dominant mode for how large language models are applied to SEO.
Workflow-based SEO presupposes that the user has a specific intent. This could include refreshing a particular article, conducting keyword research for a certain strategy, and so on. The user then architects a workflow to complete that task, or asks an agent for assistance in completing that discrete task. After that task is completed, the onus is on the user to again scope and push the task to an agent to complete.
The biggest problem with this approach is that it’s simply slow. The time required to build workflows, run them, and then ask the agent to complete another task severely throttles the throughput of what the agent is able to accomplish.
Autonomous SEO runs on an entirely different paradigm. There’s no “push” dynamic, but there’s no “pull” either. The agent operates 24x7 to take whatever actions are the most value-added to the user, regardless of whether that’s conducting competitive research, writing content, or fixing technical SEO issues. The net result is a step-function jump in execution velocity.
World-class SEO expertise at a fraction of the cost
SEO has long been considered a black box to those unfamiliar with it, with truly world-class expertise reserved and contained in the minds of a handful of expert practitioners. The rise of autonomous SEO agents has the possibility of bringing top-decile expertise in SEO to businesses at a fraction of the cost.
